Understanding Instruction Groups

What are Instruction Groups?

Instruction Groups is a grouping of instructions inside a job that share the same inventory. This allows operators to execute multiple instructions at once.  This feature is specifically for shipment picking job instructions.

Use Case 1

Use Case 2

Configure Instruction Groups

Create Waveflow and add to Waveflow list

You will have to either create a new Waveflow or add a new detail to an existing waveflow. The waveflow detail for instruction groups is ' Create Job Instruction Groups'

When adding to the Waveflow detail list, this Waveflow detail must sit under 'Shipment Picking Job Creation'.

 Create/amend Picking Profiles

Create/edit shipment picking profiles to have both 'Allow multi-shipment containers' and 'Use group instructions'. Having these ticked will enable Instruction groups.

How to use Instruction Groups

Select the correct Picking Profile & Complete Picking Job

After selecting the correct profile, whether it be manual or automatic initiation, if instructions are grouped you will see 'Instruction Group ID'  instead of  'Shipment Number'.

Below you will see an example of Instruction Groups used during picking. In this example, the instruction group consisted of two shipments, with one item to be picked per shipment, totalling two picks for the group.

For more information on picking see Picking (canary7.com)

 N.B.

* It is not recommend to use consolidation when using instruction groups as the intent of instruction groups is to speed up the fulfilment process.

** As this would be grouping by instructions, you may wish to limit the use of group by shipment_header.shipment_number in Shipment Picking Job Creation
