Understanding Carrier Assignment Master
Automate Carrier Choices for Optimised Deliveries.
What is Carrier Assignment Master?
The Carrier Assignment Master feature in Canary7 automates the process of selecting the optimal carrier and service for each shipment based on custom-defined criteria. Similar to Rulemaster, this feature allows you to configure dynamic rules that automatically match shipments to the most suitable carrier options, eliminating the need for manual intervention.
Carrier Assignment Master enhances shipping operations by streamlining the assignment of carriers and carrier services. By setting up specific rules, users can ensure that shipments are efficiently matches with various factors, such as Company IDs, Ship-To-Country IDs, and other relevant criteria.
For example, a 3PL (third-party logistics) could use Carrier Assignment Master to automatically assign a particular carrier to shipments associated with specific companies or destinations, ensuring optimal carrier selection without any manual decision-making.
Accessing Carrier Assignment Master
To access the feature:
Navigate to the main menu and type Carrier Assignment Master in the search bar, then select it from the list.
Alternatively, go to Configuration > Shipment Profile Setup > Carrier Assignment Master.
Add Carrier Assignment Master
Click on the Red Action Button, this will bring up a drop-down menu, and select "Add"
Enter the name of Carrier Assignment Master
Enter a clear, descriptive name that reflects the purpose of the ruleāfor example, "Carrier for EU Orders" or "Company A Fedex Orders".
Enable the rule by ensuring the Active checkbox is ticked. Then click the Next button to continue.
Ensure that is checked if you want the Carrier to appear in Canary7. Click on the next button
to continue.
Select the Carrier and Service
Select the Carrier that will handle the shipment (e.g., DPD) and the subsequent Carrier Service to be applied (e.g., Next Day Delivery).
Define the Assignment Criteria
In this tab you can define the rule that triggers the carrier assignment.
The rule is built using three components:
- Column:
- Select the field you wish to evaluate such as Company, Warehouse, Ship To Country etc.
- Comparison:
- Specify the operator that fits your criteria. Common options include =, >, <, or <>, with = being the most frequently used.
- Example: Company_ID = 19
- Value:
- Enter the value to compare against;
- Example: If Column is Ship To County, you might set the Value to Belgium.
Click the add button to continue, you can add multiple criteria for a single rule.
Once you have selected and entered the required fields, click on the submit button to add.
