🗂️ Understanding Locating Assignment Master in Canary7
The Locating Assignment Master in Canary7 determines which Locating Rule is applied to each item during Putaway Job Execution or Replenishment Job Execution, based on user-defined criteria.
It allows you to create multiple assignment rules that intelligently route items to the most appropriate storage locations; tailored to your warehouse zones, item groups, clients (companies), and operational requirements.
🧠 Why It Matters
The Locating Assignment Master is key to:
✅ Automating Putaway and Replenishment strategy selection
🏗️ Ensuring storage consistency across different clients, item types, and warehouses
📦 Minimising manual decision-making and speeding up job execution
🔄 Supporting scalable, logic-driven warehouse operations
🧱 Key Concepts
📌 You can create as many Assignment Rules as needed.
📋 Each rule evaluates criteria to determine which Locating Rule to apply.
🕒 Rules are evaluated at the moment of job execution — not during receipt upload.
📍 Locating Rules must already be created before they can be assigned.
⚙️ Configuration Tabs Overview
🧾 General Tab
Field | Description |
---|---|
Name | Give the assignment rule a clear, descriptive name (e.g. Returns – THFC) |
Active | Tick this to ensure the rule is currently applied by the system |
📌 Locating Tab
Field | Description |
---|---|
Locating Rule | Select the pre-configured Locating Rule that should be triggered if the rule’s criteria are met |
📝 Note: The Locating Rule must already exist before it can be assigned here.
📊 Criteria Tab
This is where you define when the Locating Rule should apply. Criteria are set using Column / Operator / Value logic — the same flexible format used in other assignment modules in Canary7.
You can create rules that are broad (e.g. apply to an entire warehouse) or granular (e.g. apply only to a specific item group from a specific company).
Available Columns Include:
Company
Warehouse
Receipt Type
Item Group
Source ID
🧪 Example Use Case
📦 Goal: Automatically direct returns from a specific client (THFC) to a dedicated inspection zone.
Column | Operator | Value |
---|---|---|
Receipt Type | = | Returns |
Company | = | THFC |
✅ When this rule is triggered, the system will apply the assigned Locating Rule to guide items into the returns location.
📌 Summary
The Locating Assignment Master gives you powerful control over where stock goes — without needing manual input at the point of job execution. By aligning Locating Rules to key operational criteria, you can:
