What is Locating Assignment Master?
The Locating Assignment Master in Canary7 controls which Locating Rule is applied to each received Item by evaluating user-defined criteria. It allows you to create multiple assignment rules that ensure the most appropriate Locating Rule is triggered based on operational needs.
This function is crucial for tailoring Putaway and Replenishment strategies, helping you maintain efficient storage behaviours across different warehouses, clients (companies), and item types.
Key Concepts
You can create as many Locating Assignment Rules as needed.
Each rule checks a set of criteria to determine which Locating Rule should be applied.
Rules are evaluated at the point of Putaway Job Execution or Replenishment Job Execution.
Configuration
Tabs Overview
General Tab
Name: Enter a descriptive name for your assignment rule.
Active: Tick this checkbox to ensure the rule is currently in use.
Locating Tab
Locating Rule: Select one of your pre-configured Locating Rules to assign if the criteria (defined in the next tab) are met.
📝 Note: The Locating Rule must already exist in your system. This step is about linking the assignment rule to an existing rule.
Criteria Tab
This is where you define the conditions under which the Locating Rule should apply.
You can set up multiple criteria, using the same flexible Column / Operator / Value configuration as other assignment modules in Canary7.
Rules can be built to be as broad or specific as your operation requires.
Available Columns:
Company
Warehouse
Receipt Type
Item Group
Source ID
Example Use Case
To ensure items that are returned, and are from a specific company, are putaway into the returns location for inspection.
Column | Operator | Value |
---|---|---|
Receipt Type | = | Returns |
Company | = | THFC |
This configuration would trigger the associated Locating Rule that puts items into the returns locations.
Summary
The Locating Assignment Master enables fine-tuned control over your warehouse storage behaviour by matching incoming items with the right Locating Rule based on key criteria. This ensures that every item is guided to its ideal location, optimising space, efficiency, and accuracy in your putaway and replenishment processes.
