Adjustment Class

A predefined description of the adjustment being carried out.

Aisle

It is a column of space between racks.

Allocation Rule

It determines what order/sequence items are picked in depending on a set condition. 

Allocation Strategy

A specific plan in which items are picked.

Batch Controlled

A way of tracking that ensures all pieces of inventory stay in the same group.

C

Carrier

A company that will transport the products to their designated location or address.

Carrier Assignment Master

It is how Canary7 will assign a shipment to a particular carrier and service

Carrier Firewall

A check to see if the carrier is suitable for the shipment.

Charge Class

It is used in billing and will define the charge's calculation formula. They are non-configurable and are hard-coded into Canary7.

Charge Type

It is used in billing and it will apply the assigned Charge Class to charge the customer when the criteria are met. These are fully configurable, and any non-rate variables are defined.

Check Digit

It is a combination of numbers, usually, 3, used to verify if the operator has completed the task in the correct location.

Check Reference

The field that will initiate the process, is usually the receipt number.

Checkin Quantity Message

A statement of which will be provided to the user after they have checked in the product.

Closed

A set status where all executions on a shipment have been completed and the shipment cannot be amended or deleted at this stage.

Company

A client or customer who owns the products that are in the warehouse.

Company Code

It is a unique name given to a company used for identifying.

Company Id

It is a unique name given to a company used for identifying. 

Configuration

The process of changing or creating the required dependencies needed for Canary7 to work with your needs.

Consolidation

The physical process of bringing multiple containers belonging to the same shipment to one dock location.

Container

A physical object used for transportation and or storage inside or outside the warehouse.

Container Class

A way of categorising containers for better organisation. 

Container Type

A way of specifying which kind of container that is being used. 

Contract

Contract is used in billing to assign the rates to a company and warehouse within the Canary7; different warehouses will use different contracts but can be under the same company.

CSV

A Comma Separated Value file is a text file that is commonly used for importing or exporting information. 

Cycle Count

A counting process where inventory is checked for auditing on a regular basis to ensure that records are correct and accurate.

D

Dashboard

A way of displaying visually, data and information and improving understanding of this information. 

Default Inventory Status

The current state of the inventory within the warehouse.

Default Receiving Dock

The area in which the goods are checked into during the receiving process.

Demand

Used within Replenishment Template, it will define what items and quantities are needed

Description

Text that informs the user of what the field is.

Dispatch Held

If set by the company of the shipment, no picks of the shipment will occur unless it is left unchecked.

E

Enquiry

A type of menu within Canary7 is used for viewing, adding, importing, or editing information. This menu is intended to be used on desktop computers.

ERP number

The Enterprise Resource Planning number is a way to keep track of the product's route through inventory.

F

Factor

A number that is divided into another number that will not have a remainder used in the unit of measurement to count in factors of 5 for example.

FEFO

Stands for First Expiry First Out.

Field

A box or drop-down in the user interface that allows the user to enter data into the system.

FIFO

First in First out, is where products that have been first in will be the first to be sent out. This is usually to account for product expiry dates.

G

Glossary

A glossary is a collection of words pertaining to a specific topic. In your articles or dissertation, it’s a list of all terms you used that may not immediately be obvious to your reader. Your glossary only needs to include terms that your reader may not be familiar with, and it’s intended to enhance their understanding of your work. Glossaries are not mandatory, but if you use a lot of technical or field-specific terms, it may improve readability to add one.

Header

It is the first line of the CSV that is used to describe what each column is.

Height

The physical vertical distance of an object.

ID

This is the identifying field which is usually a unique number that is assigned.

Item

The product will be stored within the warehouse and assigned with all the necessary information, it is only created once.

Item Code

It is a unique code/number given to an item used to distinguish it from other items.

Item Description

Text that informs the user of what the item is.

Item Group

A way to group items and is used in Configurations.

Item ID

It is a unique number assigned to an item by Canary7 which is the identifying field. 

Item Reference

A way of representing data, usually in barcode form.

Item Selection

A query of records based on predefined criteria allows a more straightforward configuration of items.

J

Job Class

A name that is given to each job execution, is associated with its purpose.

Job Creation

They allow the creation of jobs and their instructions, where the criteria match the job. 

Job Execution

A menu that is used to assist the user with physical processes and data input, these menus are designed to be used on mobile devices.

Job Group

It is a way of organising jobs that are set to a company, team, etc.

Job Type

It is a way of arranging jobs that have their respective Job Classes and Job Groups used to help organise job executions. 

K

Knowledge Base

A knowledge base is a self-serve online library of information about a product, service, department, or topic. The data in your knowledge base can come from anywhere. Typically, contributors who are well versed in the relevant subjects add to and expand the knowledge base. The content can range from the ins and outs of your HR or legal department to an explanation of how a product works. 

L

Leading Status

The status of a process that is currently in progress or awaiting to happen.

Length

The physical horizontal distance and is often the largest horizontal side.

Level

The vertical positon of a location.

License Plate

A unique piece of data is usually a barcode that is on the container/pallet and is used for tracking in the WMS.

LIFO

Stands for Last In First Out.

Load Assignment

Where the shipment is assigned to a load.

Load Number

It is a unique identifier for the Load field used to distinguish Loads.

Loading

The physical process of placing products onto a trailer or vehicle and is usually the last stage in the outbound flow.

Locating Method

A predefined set of procedures which decide where products will be placed.

Locating Rule

It determines what location items are putaway depending on a set condition.

Locating Selection

A query of records based on predefined criteria allows a more straightforward configuration of Locations.

Location

The physical position where the product will sit in storage.

Location Class

A way of organising locations into their respective purpose.

Location Code

It is a unique code/number given to a location, it contains all of the template fields.

Location Selection

A query of records based on predefined criteria of Locations.

Location Template

A predefined layout for which all locations created using this template will follow.

Location Type

A way of describing the characteristics of a location, such as its name and dimensions.

Long Description

Text with more detail that fully describes to the user what the field is.

M

Machine

It is the equipment used in the warehouse that aids with completing tasks, such as automated processes.

Machine Class

It is a way of further organising the machinery used in the warehouse.

Machine Type

It is a way of specifying what type of machinery is being used within the warehouse.

N

Name

A label that is used to identify the field.

Navigation Menu

It allows the user to quickly switch between other menus within Canary7.

Notification Master

It is a way in which Canary7 will inform someone when a particular condition is met or not, this is usually done via an automated email.

P

Packing

It is taking the items from different containers which belong to the same shipment and placing them into one new container.

Permanent Location

A location where a specific item as been set to be stored.

Pick

The physical process of receiving the product from storage.

Pick and Drop

Sometimes referred to as a P&D location, is where the product will sit temporarily between processes in a warehouse.

Planner

It is a type of menu within Canary7 that is used to start, end, or track processes.

Pool

The place where all shipments originate in Canary7, they await to be added to wave via shipment planner.

Position

It is a way of setting co-ordinates to a location where products will be stored within Canary7 so that the automated warehouse machinery works correctly.

Profile

A predetermined set of configurations will change the process of completing a Job Execution.

Putaway

The physical process of placing the product into storage.

R

Rate Card

It is used in billing and it is where a collection of charge types can be selected and assigned a rate which will be applied to each charge type.

Receipt

It is a list of what items have been sent to the warehouse, it has the detail of ownership and quantity included.

Receipt Num

It is a unique identifier for the receipt field used to distinguish receipts.

Receiving

The process of getting goods into the warehouse.

Receiving Process

The predetermined process of how receiving is carried out, usually, will change the process after the goods are checked in.

Reference

A way of representing data, usually in barcode form.

Reject Part Allocation

Checks to see if the Shipment has been correctly allocated, if not, it will send the Shipment back to the pool.

Role

It will determine what access, permissions and control a user has within Canary7, and a single role can be assigned to multiple users.

Row

The horizontal position of a location

Selection

Shipping

The process of getting goods out of the warehouse.

Side

It is a position of a location that is usually left or right and is often given a letter.

SKU

Stock Keeping Unit, a number used to help identify or differentiate products in inventory.

Split Detail Children

It takes a shipment with multiple detail children and puts each into 1 child.

Staging

The process of placing the product in a temporary location until needed to be moved to another location.

Station

An area in the workplace where you access Canary7.

Status

The name that is given to the current state of the field or object.

T

Template Field

It is an assigned value or character stored within a created template.

Trailer Number

It is a unique identifier for the trailer field used to distinguish trailers.

Trailing status

The status of the process that occurred previously.

U

Unit of Measure

A magnitude of how to quantify a physical amount of something eg. weight, amount or etc.

UOM

Unit of Measure is a magnitude of how to quantify a physical amount of something, e.g. weight, amount, etc. 

User

It is an employee or client with permitted access who will use Canary7 regularly to fulfil their needs.

W

Warehouse

A name of the building, to which all the zones and locations belong and where the product is stored.

Warehouse Code

A unique identifying field is used to distinguish other warehouses from another.

Warehouse Control System WCS

The software which controls the Automated equipment within the warehouse.

Wave

A wave is a collection of shipments that have been grouped together via the shipment planner, waiting to be run through a sequence of wave steps.

Wave Step

It is an instruction/execution within the wave flow process.

Waveflow

It consists of multiple wave steps that control how particular functions behave, such as allocation, carrier assignment, document printing, load assignment, etc.

Weight

The quantity of mass of the object.

Width

The physical horizontal distance and is often the shortest horizontal side.

WMS

Warehouse Management System is software that allows users to control, manage or view processes that happen in a warehouse.

Z

Zone

A given name for a collection of locations that share the same functionality.

Zone Class

A way of organising zones into their respective purpose.
